Blockbuster to expand focus on videogames

Well it looks like blockbuster sees the impact that videogames are starting to make, and they have decided to expand their focus on not only the rental of videogames, hardware, and accessories, but also the sales of said items. The systems that they are going to be expanding upon are the following: PlayStation3, XBOX360, Nintendo Wii, and the Nintendo DS (Basically all the heavy hitters that are out there, with the exception of the ever still selling PlayStation2).

I personally see this as an “its about time” move on blockbuster’s part. I know that they’ve been trying to go into retail with the videogames, but it always seemed like a half-ass effort. This time it looks like they are willing to throw a good amount of their weight behind it. I do wonder if this is a move to help stablize the rumored turmoil that has been caused by digital downloads, and mailing service such as NetFlicks.

SPORE CREATURE CREATOR

Will Wright’s (creator of anything with Sim on it) next huge endeavour, Spore, will be releasing its creature creator on June 17, 2008. This will allow all those who have waited for a couple of years to play around with what you’ll be able to do when you are helping create or evolve a species.

I think its an interesting move on their part to release this creature creator before the actual game comes out September 7, 2008. I can see it as a good move seeing as the game has been delayed several times, and some of the audience that it has has since looked elsewhere thinking that this game was starting to look like a Duke Nukem.

Spore is basically a game of evolution, for those out there that don’t know about it. You’ll be starting off life as a single celled organism and evolving into different forms as time goes on. At first you’ll be in charge of just one creature, but as the evolution progresses you’ll start to control more creatures. The cool thing about this game is that when civilization starts to take over you can evolve to the point where you can space travel, and if the model that was first presented still holds true you’ll be able to see what other players all over the world have evolved.

I personally can’t wait for this game to come out, the rumor is that its at least getting released onto PC, MAC, Nintendo DS and I-pod Touch/I-Phone, but hopefully I can lock down some more facts for the readers to get some definites.
