The PlayStation Update that Didn’t

Posted by Altered Confusion on July 4, 2008

I’m sure by now that everyone has heard that the latest update for the PS3 bricked a good portion of PS3s that downloaded the update. Sony has since taken down the update and even given peolpe the old one so that they could go back to where they just were.

If you do have a PS3 and haven’t found your way to the remedy, saying that you were one of those eager beavers who wanted the update as soon as it was available, I hear the only way to save the PS3 is to physically remove the hard drive and then format it using your PC. So in short you lose everything but you’ll be able to boot the PS3 and install the second to last update and be able to play your games again, though you’ll have to set up your profile and all that fun stuff.

From my understanding the update was suppose to allow In Game XMB. Which basically means that you’ll have access to a bar similar to the main menu of your PS3 in game. Also with this update was the rumored trophies, or the “it isn’t microsoft’s achievement system, but its sort of like it, its just called trophies for doing things in the game that meet a certain criteria.” With my understanding there are some game companies that will be placing a special icon on the back of their boxes, it shows a cirle with a line through it and under that line a trophy. We’ll see if the trophy sensation takes off or not.

Well hopefully Sony will figure something out and get what they promised the world on July 2nd out and about for the masses to possibly drool over.
