Eureka, I’ve Discovered the Key

Posted by Altered Confusion on March 24, 2008

So I decided that it wouldn’t hurt to send just a smidge more of my very small financial support, and boy has it already. After bringing my food to work today I decided that I’d eat out so that I could stop by the CVS down the street and pick up some pencils. Well, much to my chagrin that entire shopping center has recently been closed, so in a panic we tried to find another place, and almost went all the way through downtown when I remembered that my girlfriend has to make many trips to an Office Depot that is just off the Georgia Tech campus. So I floored it over there, first off I’d like to say that the parking is scare as hell. You have to park on top of the office depot, and to do so you have to go up a narrow ramp that only allows for one car at a time, in any direction.

So I got a large box of pencils, a ruler, and a pencil sharpener.

We went to Arby’s had an awesome sandwich, played some foozball in the office, and then I did some work.

Since the work is at a trickle right now I decided to break in a pencil and I have to say that I’m loving the results, so much that I might actually have enough inspiration to post something, but we’ll see.

Patapon Review

Posted by Altered Confusion on March 24, 2008

Let me start off by saying that Patapon can get so addictive. You’ll want to play it for just a little bit and end up playing it for half an hour to an hour. It is a great addition to anyone’s PSP library.

You are a God and control a nation of creatures trying to get to IT. You issue commands by rhythmically pressing keys in different patterns. As you adventure on you’ll be given new units, as well as weapons, and items to create the units. Also after a couple missions you’ll be able to get a couple extra items by playing your horn for the tree whose crown always itches.

Overall this game is intense, there is a really jump in room for error in the game, and I think that is why there are going to be plenty of people out there that are going to have to wear the wrist strap, if they’ve even ever put it on, to keep from throwing the PSP in frustration. Depending on when you slightly don’t get the beat or miss the pattern entirely you could have just sent your entire army to an early grave.

I think for those who are willing to try levels over and over again they will find that this game is a great game and gives you a sense of accomplishment after you’ve finally completely a level after about 7+ times. For those who want the action, some difficulty but the ability to mess up and still be able to advance, after the first 7 levels, this game is not for you.

I think my biggest problem is that there is no true pause feature, sure you can hit the start button and it will bring up a pop up but you are going to lose your combo of successful beat patterns, and worst of all you will still be getting attacked and damaged. For a portable game system game I believe that this is a must, you have to be able to truly pause the game. Certain levels will not allow for you to break the rhythm so that you can go to the bathroom, take a phone call, answer a question, or get yourself something to eat/drink.

I’m sorry to say that because of its flaws I’m going to have to give it a 6.5 out of 10, I’d love to give it something better but my frustration with the game is an all time high right now seeing as I’ve played the same level 12 times and have still yet to advance.

Re-Energized and Ready to go

Posted by Altered Confusion on March 24, 2008

So after a nice weekend in Pawleys Island, I am back and ready to once again post a blog. I think today I will be reviewing a game, I know what you must be thinking, this guy has no life it would seem that every time he blogs that he is posting a review. Well the truth is that some of the games I’ve had in waiting.

The three games that I really did play while wanting to review were Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and Patapon. If you have been following this blog at all or have cheated and looked at the archive you’ll quickly see which game I haven’t reviewed yet.

I think because of the lack of income, seeing that this is all coming out of my pocket some of my older games are going to get reviewed, but I’ll try to go from most recent and then back. Sadly I think that some of the games that I will be talking about will be damn near impossible to find, but I guess them the breaks.

I have come to a couple of conclusions, and I’d like to voice them before I post my review. First off trying to get better at drawing comics with a pen is an idiotic move, sadly with Easter being yesterday and me actually showing up to work early, I’m still without pencils, but I’ll rectify that situation when I leave work today. Second off it is becoming more and more apparent that I am in need of a second voice on this blog. I’m going to try real hard to get a voice that is not really a gamer, but can still see some beauty in video games so that we can have a wider view on titles.
