Blizzard Launches Referral Initative in WoW

Posted by Altered Confusion on August 7, 2008

Well Blizzard has never shied away from making sure that their MMO, World of Warcraft, stays on top and with the latest news coming out, I have to say that I’m not really all that surprised.

Blizzard will be installing a referral initiative to help bolster numbers in the world. I think personally they are doing it because the next expansion isn’t quite ready and I’m sure that there are some bored players on there that are thinking about the jump to WarHammer Online (coming out September 18).

Let me tell you a little about this master plan of theirs. Basically if you refer a friend who is willing to at least pay a 2 months subscription up front (which would mean that they would be playing pasted the release date of WarHammer) that both that person and the referer would receive triple experience points. The referer would also recieve a special mount, and the ability to summon the person that they had refered. Talking to so WoW fans simply being able to summon a player is huge. The effect of what this will do is still yet to be seen.

I have never questioned what Blizzard does, and I have to say that this is one of those times. Blizzard is one of the best because they know what they are doing, and I’m sure that the carefully weighed all the risks involved in doing something like this. I also know that Blizzard would never rush a product out to try to ward off a competitor, its just not their style.

So we will see how this turns out, I’m sure there will still be those who jump ship for the the latest and greatest thing out there seeking out new adventures in unknown realms, and I hope for WarHammer’s sake that they have success like WoW and not like Fury.
