Microsoft a little bit Arrogant when it comes to FF: XIII

Posted by Altered Confusion on August 11, 2008

Well Microsoft seems to be very full of themselves when talking about the Square Enix decision to multi-platform their next Final Fantasy Game, FF: XIII. According to Albert Pennello, Global Marketing Manager for Microsoft,

“I think the most obvious reason that they made the announcement is just looking at the success of our console…Square has done games for us in the past, and I think there’s a point where Square just has to look at the Xbox 360, the install base and attach rates that we’re seeing and actually has to make a decision on their own that it’s the right thing to do for them…

I think it’s easy to assume that something’s going on behind the scenes, I think the more obvious answer is we’re doing really well and the game creators want their games to be where the most people and the most consoles [are], and right now that’s the Xbox 360.”

I think in part he is right, XBOX is a popular console choice, but I think he got ahead of himself. I think Square Enix saw a deal that could possibly hurt them in the PlayStation 3, and not being afraid to have the money pouring in they chose another console of equal power that could house the game so that they would come out on top, and also allow the popularity to spread.

I do think that it is a bit odd that there is no Japanese FF: XIII for XBOX coming out, you would think that something like that would cause an influx of purchases so that people could play games made by probably the most respected RPG maker in the world.

When the game comes out it will be personally interesting to see which console I get it on, but I think I’m going to lean towards the PS3 simply because it looks so lonely with the lack of games that I have for it.
