South Korea Passes Curfew Law

Posted by Altered Confusion on May 2, 2011

I vaguely remember reading and writing about how the Korean government was going to try to institute a curfew for younger gamers. Well this law has officially passed, and now its time to get down to the bare bones of this thing. Basically this law is going to institute a curfew, midnight to 6 AM, for all children under the age of 15 from playing online games.

CCP Reveals Trailer to Wet Gamer’s Appetites

Posted by Altered Confusion on March 29, 2011

During the EVE Fanfest that just passed CCP Games decided to show off a little trailer to get the crowd all pumped up. I’m told this gives you a taste of how EVE Online and Dust 514 are going to be and how they will interact, though I’m pretty sure that the graphics won’t be as nice, it still peaks my interest.

Well it looks like for those out there playing the Beta, if THQ actually allows the full run (which would end March 31st), you’re going to want to get as much mileage as you can out of Company of Heroes Online.

Atlus excited to create Atlus Online

Posted by Altered Confusion on February 3, 2009

Being an Atlus Fanboy since PS1’s Kartia, I’m happy to hear that Atlus is about to launch community portal called Atlus Online.

Now this is a place where you can hang with people of the same mind as you, but there apparently is also going to be a yet to be announced game that you’ll be able to play.

I’m not exactly sure what the extent of this will be, but here’s a direct quote from the Atlus man in charge.

“Atlus has long wanted to create an online portal that would become the daily destination for anyone looking for a fresh and engaging online entertainment experience,” said Shinichi Suzuki, president and CEO, Atlus. “Atlus Online will emerge as an extremely user-focused destination that is fully accessible to each and every one of its members. From amazing games to play to exciting contests, exceptional content and great community interaction, we are convinced that Atlus Online will be a premiere interactive entertainment destination for online gamers and anime fans alike.”

So go over to the site and pre-register for the site, and gain the ability to have early access to the unannounced title.

Cryptic Studios releases Star Trek Online Screenshots

Posted by Altered Confusion on February 3, 2009

Cryptic Studios, the driving force behind Star Trek Online, has just released a handful of screen shots for the public’s viewing pleasure. There still isn’t a release date for the game, but at least these pictures will hopefully give us a glimpse into what is to come.

To be completely honest this game is going to either going to excel in a world where only a few MMOs, pay to play MMOs, truly thrive, or its going to tank and we’re looking at the next Tabula Rasa.

I think because of the universe and lore that has been created over so many TV shows, there is definitely going to be a following. I wonder if the characters that we grew up with will be the ones handing out the quests as you traverse the galaxy. Which brings me to this question, Star Trek was all about exploring the unknown, so how much of the unknown will people get to search. Is this going to be an EVE Online clone? Will players be able to control ships, land on planets, move around the entire interior of the ship?

If the answer is that you’re going to be able to assemble your own crew, build a ship, be able to move all around the ship, explore the far reaches of the universe, explore planets with true depth, and basically do anything else that they could do on the shows, I think that this game is a gold mine. If this game lacks the robustness that it needs to be a true Star Trek game, there may be riots from those who find skimping on one part or another a sacrilege to Star Trek. Only time will tell, and hopefully this game will have a happy ending.

Need For Speed gets Reboot

Posted by Altered Confusion on January 30, 2009

We had previously written on the Need For Speed franchise being axed, but it looks like that is only partially correct. Instead of a complete axing of the series it appears that the series is going to get a reboot. As a result of the reboot there is going to be 3 different Need for Speed Games coming out. One will be for the hardcore gamer, one for the more casual gamer, and one as a online game.

The game for the Hardcore gamer is going to be called Need for Speed: Shift, and will be available for the PS3, 360, PC, and the PSP. This game will have help from Blimey! Games.

The more casual title is reportedly called Need for Speed: Nitro which will be coming out for the DS and the Wii. This version will be developed by EA Montreal, in the type of an “arcade racer which will appeal to the experienced gamer as well as the casual gamer.”

The online game is going to be a free-to-play game called Need for Speed: World Online. The version will be created with what is left of Blackbox and EA Singapore. Though no micro-transaction talk has been heard, I’d expect to see just that when it comes out in the states this winter.

** UPDATE **

Turns out that there is 1 more title coming out of the Need for Speed series, but to what it could be and what platform, EA is staying very tight lipped about it. Seeing as the new directions this series reboot is taking, only time will tell what we will get to see.

Beatnik Games’ Open Beta of Plain Sight has Arrived

Posted by Altered Confusion on January 21, 2009

Beatnik Games is officially ready to throw down its Open Beta for Plain Sight, a multiplayer online PC Game in which you control a weapon wielding, bouncing, robot against other robots of the same general type. Sound like a fun idea to check out, well all you have to do is download the game, which takes 128 MB, install it and go, there is no signing up required beforehand.

Now there is a twist to the gameplay, and that is not only are you trying to kill other robots, which will make you become bigger, and you’ll start to glow, but to score the points obtained by your kills you will have to kill yourself. That’s right, once you feel that you have obtained enough points, or you’re afraid that someone will come along and down you, you’ll have to put yourself down to score. I’m sure the format dictates first to a certain amount, and a time limit, but what an interesting twist to have in a game.

I personally will be trying my hand at this game as soon as I can, and I’m sure I’ll drop some more knowledge when I have it.

*** UPDATE ***

After downloading the game and installing it, I have found that it is time based, and that its built around joining or hosting a game on different maps. I really would have like to see what an actual game would have been like, but for some reason the game decided to take control of just under 2 gigs of my RAM and stall my entire PC. So if someone was luckier than I, and perhaps not running Vista gets this up and running, leave a comment.

Jolt Online Announces the return of Zork

Posted by Altered Confusion on January 16, 2009

Jolt Online has announced that they will be bringing the Zork name back with Legends of Zork. This will be a casual web-based MMO that will be playable from your PC or i-Phone (which I’m assuming if you have an i-pod touch and are on a wireless network would work as well). There has been no mention if the game will be subscription based, but there has been talk of micro-transactions being associated with the game so we shall see.

It’s good to hear a good solid game series’ name mentioned again. I got in late with the Zorks, so I can’t really comment on the text adventures, but from what I’ve heard there are those who live and die for Zork.

More Information when it comes available. There hasn’t been a release date mentioned for this title, either.
