Sony to Execute “Welcome Back” Gesture

Posted by Altered Confusion on May 2, 2011

Well the PSN has been down for at least 2 weeks now, and it would appear that it will finally be coming back in a crippled state soon, and then fully live in about a week. Sony will of course continue to be busy on this issue, but they are rolling around ideas of what to say to those out there effected, and for those who simply still have a PlayStation 3 after the attack that caused so much information to be stolen.

Sony Reports that the NGP Release Date will Be Pushed out for some Sites

Posted by Altered Confusion on April 11, 2011

Now I don’t think anyone is surprised by this announcement. I think that everyone is aware of what has happened over in Japan, and where the focus needs to be. That and with all the action that has been going on I’m sure assembly lines stopped for some time.

Sony to Push for Digital Sales on NGP Release Day

Posted by Altered Confusion on March 23, 2011

In an interest move, in my opinion, Sony will be releasing all the launch titles in both hard and digital format. This is to make it easier, and quicker for gamers to be able to play the games on their new device. In Sony’s words, “it will remove the need to go to a brick and mortar store for games to be played on the device.” To this I say, ummm, ok?

EA to Add their Presence to Sony HOME

Posted by Altered Confusion on January 8, 2009

Even though I’m not the biggest fan of the HOME experience that is Sony’s virtual world addition BETA for the PS3, that doesn’t mean if there’s new info on it that I’m not going to write about it.

EA announced that they will be showing its support for the Sony HOME BETA by creating a EA Sports area, and also have some game stuff in there as well. I’m interested to see what they will be using that room for. I’m thinking that its going to be a virtual video store, which kind of makes the PSN Store seem pointless for EA products, but then again you never know, perhaps Sony is going to try to get all companies to do that.

If Sony does do that, I’m going to predict a massive collective headache from the gaming community, and the true sign of the Sony apocolypse. Here’s the press release straight from EA.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan 08, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) —
Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced its initial plans for the PlayStation(R)Home Beta for the PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system, the 3D social gaming community that allows users to interact, communicate and share gaming experiences online. EA’s support of the PlayStation Home Beta will begin with the EA SPORTS(TM) Complex, which is currently in development and is slated to launch this Spring.

“We’re proud to support the PlayStation Home Beta with a very robust offering from EA SPORTS,” said Peter Moore, president of EA SPORTS. “As part of our continued commitment to the connected experience and the digitization of our business, the EA SPORTS Complex is a rich new online environment that presents a compelling and immersive social gaming experience for the global sports audience.”

EA worked closely together with Sony Computer Entertainment to ensure that the EA SPORTS Complex space within PlayStation Home would be a compelling experience for all EA SPORTS fans, with a space designed for both casual and hardcore gamers. Gamers will be able to play exclusive new EA SPORTS multiplayer games, meet and interact with EA SPORTS fans, view daily, weekly and annual leaderboards to see how they compare against the rest of EA SPORTS Nation, as well as watch trailers and other content from some of their favorite EA SPORTS games.

EA is currently working with Sony Computer Entertainment on further label support of PlayStation Home Beta, and will announce plans in the near future.

EA SPORTS(TM) is the leading interactive sports software brand in the world, with top-selling titles and franchises including Madden NFL football, FIFA Soccer, NHL(R) hockey, NBA LIVE basketball, NCAA(R) Football, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR(R) and NASCAR(R) racing.

Residents of Sony HOME Disgruntlement Continues

Posted by Altered Confusion on December 29, 2008

So the not so fun experience of Sony PlayStation’s HOME continues. It would appear that there are those who are starting to gather the angry villagers and protest against what Sony has done, again.

This time around it deals with the content filter for text conversations in HOME. To make sure that they covered thier asses a very strict list of words was created that can’t be said in HOME. Now of course they also decided that if the word typed contained the word not to be used that word would also be asterisked out, for example ‘Hello’. The following word contains a not so nice word of h-e-l-l and therefore must be smited from this world. Words also on the list, gay, lesbian, bisexual, Jew, Christ, and others.

Look I might not be the most in the know person out there, but this seems like another cannonball to the ever sinking PlayStation 3 ship. How much more can it take before Sony stops doing bad decisions for their current console, is it going to take the birth of the PlayStation 4 to quiet the storm?

Next up cartoony Avatars for the PlayStation after HOME is scrapped… just kidding.

I would like to say that I know that there are those out there that love the Sony HOME feature that has finally, at long last, appeared on the PlayStation 3, and I have nothing against you, but for me personally the long wait and the disappointment suffered from what I got was enough to tell me I’m never going to think highly of this application.

Sony’s Price Drop

Posted by Altered Confusion on November 26, 2008

Even though Sony is not going to give the customers a price drop on the PS3, they have decided to slash the prices on some of their PSN games so that people who already have a PS3, and had no desire to pick up an extra one will save some cash.

Here’s a rough list with their brand new $4.99 price tag:

Pixel Junk: Eden
*The Last Guy
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3

Those out there dying to get their hands on any of these regularly $9.99 priced games have from now until December 4th to purchase them.

To be completely honest I’m still not going to purchase these wonderful titles, none of these games really appeal to me enough to even spend $4.99 on. Now if Sony were to price them at $1.99 for a couple of days, I’d jump at that because even if the game royally blows, I only spent 2 dollars on it.

Is it just me or does it seem that Sony ignorantly continues to drill holes into their already sinking ship? Whatever happened to the company and the product that was the PS2, oh wait its still there and developers are still favoring it over the PS3.

Sony Home Beta

Posted by Altered Confusion on November 22, 2008

After having the opportunity of running around in the Home environment, I have this to say… I see this as Sony’s attempt at giving a more social environment and trying to cash in on the MMO phenom that is happening on the PC platform. To be honest I think they have failed. What this comes off as is a watered down Second Life experience. This reminds me of Google’s attempt into the same realm. Google’s attempt has just been shutdown, as it was seen as a failure.

I think that the Home experience, if it had come out when it was first scheduled would have now found a permanent position and set the bar for the other consoles, but as has been the reputation of Sony this go around this is just another too little too late situation.

First off this game will take around 30 gigs of your harddrive to run, for those who have a 40 or 60 gig harddrive this is basically the kiss of death. There is not enough content, in my opinion, to warrant that big of a download, but I’m guessing that Sony was going for more flash than content. There are a couple different environments inside Home, which you will have to trot around to get to.

Your House: which is where you’ll create your avatar, and also see what the layout would be if you were to have a virtual apartment. Sadly everything is plain vanilla.

Bowling Alley: Where you can play some pool, bowl, or an arcade game.

Movie Theater: for now just a place to see some previews.

Mall: Where you could get furniture, clothes, and such. Though there’s nothing in the mall to purchase.

I was really wishing that this would be something overly amazing, but I was sadly mistaken. I’m sure that if this Home actually does come out its going to cost really $$ and I can’t see it coming out well. Sony has been a big disappointment and this huge project of theirs might be the nail in the coffin for this generation of console.

I know that PS3 has some games and some functionality which sets it apart but the damage has already been done, and as a result PS3 will probably end in 3rd when the PS4 comes out.

Sony Offers a bit of Clarity on LBP level issues

Posted by Altered Confusion on November 14, 2008

So Sony has finally issued some info on the disappearing LittleBigPlanet levels. It turns out that they want you to use your imagination, the sky’s the limit, you just have to follow the following rules:

# Ensure that the content you share with other users is suitable for all ages – everybody has access to your level if you publish it
# Please respect other people’s intellectual property rights. For example, don’t use images, brands or logos that you’re not entitled to use.
# If you come across any content that you feel the need to report, then please do it responsibly. Hoax reports will be considered inappropriate behavior.

So let me get this straight because people want to show off their levels of their interpretation of a game, there’s a distinct possibility that they are going to find their level gone. I understand that maybe making a level in which you have to play as Princess Peach and you have to navigate up Mario’s pipe may be a bit risque, but at the same time if you are a huge fanboy of a game and you want to pay tribute, I don’t understand. The creators, to my knowledge, aren’t getting any perks for slaving over the level creator for days and then sharing their level. Sure people will talk of it, but I don’t think there are any transactions going on. I’m not seeing anyone’s PSN wallet bulging over a level done to FF VII.

I also have this thought, if someone creates a truly original level with themes and characters are they then protected by public publishing law, or can the big boys of videogaming go, “Ah, what a brilliant idea, of course we would have thought of it on our own eventually but we’ll just use what we see”?

I am a huge supporter of allowing people to show their creativity, and to show their interpretations of their favorite things. I think that this move is a poor one. What I don’t understand is the fact that no one could imagine someone making something a little less and appropriate. As long as I’ve seen games that let you create things I’ve seen somebody try to make or draw a penis in it, so why was this such a big surprise. There should have been a rating system installed into this game and the levels regulated into age categories, but then again that would be using the rating system which has been trying for years to make people aware of what customers are getting into, but who actually listens to the ESRB (Sadly not enough people).

LittleBigPlanet User Created Levels being Deleted

Posted by Altered Confusion on November 9, 2008

Sony promises to explain more, but as of now for some crazy reason user created levels are being deleted, not removed or quarantined. As players are becoming more accustomed  to what they can do with the level editor they are creating levels inspired by their favorite games. Unfortunately those levels are seen as bad or something to that extent and as a result there are players that are being left guessing as to what happened to the level they spent hours upon hours working on.

My only word of advice is be careful what you upload for now, let’s see what happens when the moderators start speaking up. LittleBigPlanet seems to gear towards those who want to put the time in to making something awesome, but seeing what is happening right now don’t be as aggressive trying to post those levels.
