Dragon Age II Review

Posted by Altered Confusion on April 11, 2011

Dragon Age puts you back in the lands of the first game, sadly that’s where the majority of the involvement of the first stops. You will be playing the character of the Champion, reliving the moments that gained you that title. You will have to face a threatening force and factions that unchecked could destroy the fragile balance of the city.

Risk: FACTIONS Review

Posted by Altered Confusion on February 22, 2011

Remember that boardgame of world domination where you have to amass units and try to take out your opponents with strategic planning and a slow but steady pace plan of attack? Well there’s a new twist on the XBOX Live Arcade. In the game Risk: Factions you’ll be given the chance to play a mode that takes slightly less time, well a good chunk less.

AudiBall Review

Posted by Altered Confusion on February 5, 2009

Audiball comes to the XBOX Live Community Games section courtesy of Indiecisive Games. It is a game that is meant to be played with a guitar peripheral, but you can play it with the regular XBOX360 controller as well.

The graphics are very simplistic for this game, you’ve got some pac-man-esque looking objects that are color coded, and you will experience different obstacles that don’t really scream at you. The controls as stated before are based around the guitar, so you’re going to be holding the colored button and then strumming. If you use the controller you’re going to be pressing the corresponding colored button and then using the analog stick to do the part of the “strum”.The music and sound are really simplistic and once again just like the graphics aren’t really going to wow you.

Basically this game is all about timing and in some cases getting lucky. What you are trying to do is get these balls from this grey pac-man-esque shape to the first color, you will then have a timer showing how much longer the balls will stay on that colored shape. You will have to press the color and then strum to release the balls to the next colored shape. If you press the wrong color and strum that color goes grey and it won’t catch the balls ( This is not always a bad thing). You will have a limited amount of time to get all the balls from the starting place to this vortex/black hole looking thing. Get enough in and you will advance in level.

This game is interesting, I wouldn’t say it bowls me over with uniqueness, but it could definitely be something to do if I want to play for just a bit and then go play something else. All the levels aren’t all that long (time wise), I highly recommend using the guitar and trying to get 5 balls at least each time you move from one color to another. Being a community game this game isn’t going to see much of a spotlight, but I would recommend it to those looking for something slightly different, and interesting. This game gets a 7.3 out of 10.

Halo Wars Demo Available for Some

Posted by Altered Confusion on February 5, 2009

For those out there who want a taste of Ensemble’s last game, Halo Wars, the demo has finally arrived. The demo weighs in at 1.4 GB. Now as it stands right now it appears that only Gold XBOX Live Members have the ability to download the demo, but I’m sure within the week the Silver Members will be getting their hands on it as well.

To me this RTS for the XBOX360 looks interesting. I’ve never been a HUGE Halo fan, I like most of the games that came out under the name of Halo, but I just don’t know if the transition over to other genre will have the same effect. I’m a huge fan of games succeeding, as long as they are given enough of a chance to be built soundly, and it would appear that this is the case for this game.

So if you own an XBOX360, are a Gold XBOX Live Member, have 1.4 GB free on your hard drive, and have an active internet connection, go download this game and see how a RTS in the Halo Universe looks and feels.

** UPDATE **

Thanks to Bobmoo79 for clearing up the confusion the demo is out for everyone.

The Latest on What is Going on

Posted by Altered Confusion on January 25, 2009

Thanks to Evil Poison, I fear that my want to play RPGs has been stopped cold in its tracks. This of course is a good thing because it will mean reviewing of more games not RPG, but its also a bad thing because that is the genre that I hold high in my heart, but after what I have just experienced I need to take a break from that genre. Ironically enough Gamefly is sending me yet another PS2 RPG, but we’ll hopefully be getting another game that isn’t one soon, so no worries.

In other news, as you can see I’m still in the driver’s seat for when it comes to posting, I know that there are some people out there that are still working to get a review to me, and there is one other that I’m trying to convince to write a review, we’ll see how it all comes together in the future.

In an effort to separate the recreational me, and the reviewing me I have decided that it is time to get a separate XBOX Live Account for myself. So if anyone is interested to see what I’m currently playing for review, just add AlterdConfusion to your buddy list. I will be making a PS3 username change as well soon, but I’ll update you on that when I get a chance.

Currently I have Hotel Dusk Room 215 running in my brand new DS Lite, it was time to semi-retire the huge red DS that I’ve been totting around for years. Right now I’m about half way through the game, so hopefully I can get a review out in the next couple of days.

I was looking at my wall o’ games, this morning, and have found quite a few games that I haven’t reviewed, they do have a good layer of dust on them, but I think, if I get a chance, I might break into those to give some of the readers, who are looking at the older games, a review to go on. As a result, I may be breaking out the Gamecube games, and the original XBOX games.

Well I better get back to it… oh by the way, I have mapped out the next 6 comics, I just need to draw them out. My mission with the comic is to push way past episode 100 or 150 by the time I get to PAX. I’m pretty sure that that goal is way within my reach, and I hope that the readers are enjoying the experience. As you may have noticed the comics are always shown small on the site as a formatting thing, but to compensate for that every comic is linked to the real sized image, that shows you what the comic should look like.

As always I love to hear from those readers out there that come to Altered Confusion, so please just drop a comment sometime. As you can see I’ve changed up the Left Bar a bit to show what the latest comments have been as well as a calendar to show you what days posts have occurred, so that if you missed a day you can go straight there instead of wading through all the posts trying to find where to start from.

Though I did this a bit ago I still want to point it out, in the Review section I have now broken down each game to system, genre, or alphabetic by title. Hopefully in the near future I’ll be implementing the scores option as well.

One last thing, Altered Confusion t-shirts are on their way, the design is really simple this time around, and when they arrive I’ll try to quickly get something posted for you, the readers.

A Sad Day for Ensemble Studios, Halo Wars goes GOLD

Posted by Altered Confusion on January 23, 2009

It would appear that Ensemble Studios’ departing game has now gone Gold. Halo Wars, the RTS XBOX360 Halo 3 themed game, is finally complete. What this means for the Studio is the final steps in closing the studio’s doors forever. Remember a while back that everyone, but those working on this project were let go, and now its their turn.

If you want to see a documentary that goes behind the scenes of the game all you have to do is download it off of XBOX Live today.

If you are waiting for a demo of the game, sadly you’re going to have to wait just a bit, Febuary 5th (5 AM EST). The demo is said to include a beginner tutorial, and an advance tutorial. It also includes 2 campaign missions, as well as one of the multiplayer maps. You will be able to play as either the UNSC or the Convenant, and as of now there has not been a whisper of if there will be online play available in the demo.

Son Attacks Mom over unplugging X-BOX

Posted by Altered Confusion on January 20, 2009

What is this world coming to, and why does it seem that violence in conjuncture to video games keeps getting thrusted to the forefront. A 19-year-old in Florida is now sitting in jail for the following, and I promise that all of this is true.

The man was playing X-BOX when his mom called him down for dinner. The man refused to do so stating that he was currently too busy playing to attend dinner. The mom then went up stairs and unplugged the X-BOX, then returned to the kitchen to continue to make dinner. The man came down soon after smack his mom’s arm, and then picked up a taco and threw it at his mom’s face. The taco and contents went all over her. She then threatened to call the cops, seeing that the man was still being defiant, she indeed called the cops. Was taken away upon the charges of assault. He has since tried to call his mom several times, but she refuses to pick up because she thinks he deserves to sit in the jail for a couple of days.

So an assault charge with a deadly taco throw… Well I have to say that Volusia County must have had a really slow news day. Actually from my understanding she may have called the TV station to get her and her son’s 15 minutes of fame. To which I have to say that that is a bit twisted. I can understand fearing for you life and calling the cops, but if she then went and called the station to make sure everyone knows what went on, that’s messed up.

I’d like to hear what the community thinks of this latest video game instance of violence. So leave a comment.
