BioShock 2 Review

Posted by Altered Confusion on March 21, 2011

I literally played BioShock and BioShock back to back so my experience in Rapture was both fresh in my mind and confusing. In BioShock 2 you are one of the first Big Daddys named Delta. You have awoken from your slumber on a mission to find the little sister that you were paired with. You’ll have to go all through Rapture to find her, but you’ll have to try to stop the minions of Sophia Lamb, a person who was apparently still running things in Rapture after Atlas and Andrew Ryan met their bitter end.

BioShock is one of those games that definitely leaves you both wanting more and at the same time complete exhaustion. In this game you are an unexpecting passenger of an aircraft that crashes inot the middle of the ocean. Somehow you survive the crash and float to the top.

Street Fighter players get a Chance to Strut their Stuff

Posted by Altered Confusion on February 6, 2009

sf4tourney_logo

If you are a Street Fighter enthusiast and want to show off your skills GameStop and Capcom are going to help you make that a reality. In one of the US’s biggest tournaments you will be facing off in 3 rounds of competition to see who will bring home the prize. The prize of course being a Street Fighter Arcade Cabinet, and if you are a gamer out there, who would not want that rocking out in your house, where you can be the envy of all your friends. This being especially important seeing the strength of the actual Arcade is definitely in the decline in the states.

So here’s the deal, there are 2,419 participating GameStop locations in which these things will take place (list). You’ll be playing the XBOX360 version, I’m not sure how many rounds you’ll get to play or if it will be single elimination. The winner and runner up from your location will get a chance to move on to the next round. From there you’ll have to do it again, and then you’ll be going to the finals, win that and the cabinet is yours. Afraid you might fall short, well according to GameStop it looks like you’ll be able to get some sort of shwag just for showing up.

I personally will be in attendence at one of the locations (Perimeter Mall), so maybe I’ll see some of you out there. Just look for the Altered Confusion t-shirt.

The competition will start Feb. 21 @ 2 PM, the second round will be Feb 28 @ 2 PM, and the Final round March 14 @ 2 PM.

For all the details listed and more go to the GameStop site.

Halo Wars Demo Available for Some

Posted by Altered Confusion on February 5, 2009

cboxhalowars

For those out there who want a taste of Ensemble’s last game, Halo Wars, the demo has finally arrived. The demo weighs in at 1.4 GB. Now as it stands right now it appears that only Gold XBOX Live Members have the ability to download the demo, but I’m sure within the week the Silver Members will be getting their hands on it as well.

To me this RTS for the XBOX360 looks interesting. I’ve never been a HUGE Halo fan, I like most of the games that came out under the name of Halo, but I just don’t know if the transition over to other genre will have the same effect. I’m a huge fan of games succeeding, as long as they are given enough of a chance to be built soundly, and it would appear that this is the case for this game.

So if you own an XBOX360, are a Gold XBOX Live Member, have 1.4 GB free on your hard drive, and have an active internet connection, go download this game and see how a RTS in the Halo Universe looks and feels.

** UPDATE **

Thanks to Bobmoo79 for clearing up the confusion the demo is out for everyone.

Too Human Review

Posted by Altered Confusion on February 1, 2009

too-human

Too Human is an action game with hints of RPG from Silicon Knights. If you remember this is the game that the company was suing Epic for because of its tool’s limitations. I really don’t know what the outcome of that part was, but I can tell you that as a result this was a game that got delayed several times. I think as a result SK finally just wanted to wash their hands of that game so they released it. If you ever wanted to see what a cybernetic Norse myth would look like, this is it.

The graphics are stunning, and you’re going to see that SK tried to use as much power as they could with the Unreal Engine. The sad thing is that you’re not really going to see the graphics when it comes to the models because of the terribly done camera. There will be times where it seems that SK is more interested in showing everyone the fact that they were able to make this whole level, than show you the details of what your character looks like, or the what the enemies look like. Speaking of characters, yours will be the only one that appears as if he dressed while blindfolded, that is if you decide to actually make his states powerful.

The music and sounds of the game could have been a great asset to the game, but with the lack of in game options to change volumes, and maybe add subtitles, this portion of the game feels incomplete. There are also catch phrases that you’ll hear from allies that will drive you insane the 100th time in the level that they get to say it.

The controls, oh the controls, terrible. I understand that this game wanted to get as much out of the controls as possible, but after playing this game I am left wonder why SK didn’t try to go after Microsoft because of lack of control options. The controls feel like they were crammed on the controller, and it is awful. I would have given almost anything to be able to control the camera, in this 3D game, but instead I was left with the right analog doing the sword/weapon swinging, the triggers firing a gun, and the directional arrows changing just how close the camera was going to be behind your character.

So lets talk gameplay for a second. You’re going to be playing the part of Baldur, a Norse Champion, who has just recovered from a grave injury. You’ll be resuming command of missions, which aren’t all that many, and you’ll be spending a good portion of each mission watching Valkyries come in and take your body up so that you can restart from the last check point. This game has some serious balancing issues, sure it is awesome that so many monsters/enemies can fit on the screen at one time, but without the ability to lock on to an enemy, or have your character when you’re surrounded actually choose a living target when you’re getting swarmed, this game will test your anger. There were so many good nuggets in this game, but it gets buried by the need to respawn constantly, the ability to shoot at a wall when you are facing an enemy, who by the way is kicking the crap out of you, or the fact that after you dash across the room to hit the enemy with your weapon that the next couple of swings could have you just swinging at air, as the enemy moves and is now beating you up from the side.

You can play as one of five different player types, you’re going to be able to create your own weapons and armor, you’re going to be picking up a ton of weapons and armor, you’re going to be able to customize some of the weapons and armor with Runes that you’ll find, and you’re going to get so aggravated because you’re going to have to stop every time you pick up those items to see if maybe this new one will allow you to live for more than 5 minutes.

Too Human had potential, but it was recognized and then destroyed. If you want to play a game where luck has more to do than actual skill, this might be the game for you. If you want a good action game, look elsewhere, this one will only bring heartbreak, and a very deranged and mutated sense of accomplishment as even though you died 30 times on the last mission, you some how crawled away with the victory. Thank goodness for infinite lives. This game gets a 4.9 out of 10.

A Kingdom for Keflings Review

Posted by altjules on January 27, 2009

thu_keflings_press_generic01

As a very inexperienced video game player I was really pleased when I found “A Kingdom for Keflings”. This game was created by nblogo150. Kingdom is fun, upbeat and not too complicated, which for non-experience slow learners is fantastic. The graphics are clear and bright with vivid colors and good structure. The music is light and fun and I never got sick of hearing it. Overall the game is not too challenging.

You are a giant brought in to help build a Kingdom for the Keflings, the people of the village. You, with the assistance of the Keflings build all of the homes, workshops, townhalls, and eventually a castle. As you build these buildings other blueprints are opened. Eventually you can paint the buildings, shear sheep for wool, and create magically potions from the gems of the forest. The great thing is even when you finish all of the blueprints you can paint the village with bright colors, knock down and move buildings around and decorate the kingdom with trees, flower and statues.

There are a few problems. They include the changing on the seasons, mainly winter to spring, summer to fall and fall to winter. I noticed that in the fall to winter season change also freezes for a few seconds. I don’t know if it is the change in music or the snow but it constantly freezes. Antoher problem is the controls. The Xbox controller gives you really great 360 controls but with this game you constantly have to correct yourself when trying to place a building piece.

Overall the game is very entertaining and fun to play. I really enjoyed it and may actually build a second kingdom sometime soon!!

Rating: 8.2 out of 10

The Latest on What is Going on

Posted by Altered Confusion on January 25, 2009

Thanks to Evil Poison, I fear that my want to play RPGs has been stopped cold in its tracks. This of course is a good thing because it will mean reviewing of more games not RPG, but its also a bad thing because that is the genre that I hold high in my heart, but after what I have just experienced I need to take a break from that genre. Ironically enough Gamefly is sending me yet another PS2 RPG, but we’ll hopefully be getting another game that isn’t one soon, so no worries.

In other news, as you can see I’m still in the driver’s seat for when it comes to posting, I know that there are some people out there that are still working to get a review to me, and there is one other that I’m trying to convince to write a review, we’ll see how it all comes together in the future.

In an effort to separate the recreational me, and the reviewing me I have decided that it is time to get a separate XBOX Live Account for myself. So if anyone is interested to see what I’m currently playing for review, just add AlterdConfusion to your buddy list. I will be making a PS3 username change as well soon, but I’ll update you on that when I get a chance.

Currently I have Hotel Dusk Room 215 running in my brand new DS Lite, it was time to semi-retire the huge red DS that I’ve been totting around for years. Right now I’m about half way through the game, so hopefully I can get a review out in the next couple of days.

I was looking at my wall o’ games, this morning, and have found quite a few games that I haven’t reviewed, they do have a good layer of dust on them, but I think, if I get a chance, I might break into those to give some of the readers, who are looking at the older games, a review to go on. As a result, I may be breaking out the Gamecube games, and the original XBOX games.

Well I better get back to it… oh by the way, I have mapped out the next 6 comics, I just need to draw them out. My mission with the comic is to push way past episode 100 or 150 by the time I get to PAX. I’m pretty sure that that goal is way within my reach, and I hope that the readers are enjoying the experience. As you may have noticed the comics are always shown small on the site as a formatting thing, but to compensate for that every comic is linked to the real sized image, that shows you what the comic should look like.

As always I love to hear from those readers out there that come to Altered Confusion, so please just drop a comment sometime. As you can see I’ve changed up the Left Bar a bit to show what the latest comments have been as well as a calendar to show you what days posts have occurred, so that if you missed a day you can go straight there instead of wading through all the posts trying to find where to start from.

Though I did this a bit ago I still want to point it out, in the Review section I have now broken down each game to system, genre, or alphabetic by title. Hopefully in the near future I’ll be implementing the scores option as well.

One last thing, Altered Confusion t-shirts are on their way, the design is really simple this time around, and when they arrive I’ll try to quickly get something posted for you, the readers.
